E-commerce involves layers of services and fees that go beyond any ISP. Many people ask, "What do I need to get started, and what is it really going to cost?"  The table below outlines typical steps and fees you should be aware of, regardless of where your e-commerce needs are met.

Your first step is to register your domain name. Web Panache will register or transfer your domain name as part of the e-commerce package for no extra fee.

Fees: $45 to $70

Merchant Account

Next, you must open a merchant account. All companies accepting credit cards, whether on the Internet or not, must have a merchant account.

Fees:  Fees are based on your personal profile, but generally consist of a monthly minimum and percentage of each transaction.  Ask your merchant account provider for details.

On-Line Payment Account
(optional)
Your next step depends on whether or not you want to utilize on-line payment processing. On-line payment is a term used to describe the real-time verification and processing of credit card transactions over the internet. If you do, you must open an account with an on-line payment processing organization. You must also ensure that your Merchant Account provider can support whichever on-line payment vendor you choose. Web Panache has partnerships with CyberCash and PaymentNet.  

If you want to process your orders manually, you do not need on-line payment services.

Fees:  Fees are based on your personal profile, but generally consist of a monthly minimum and percentage of your transactions.  Ask your online payment vendor for details.

SSL Certificate
(highly recommended)
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a technology used to transfer data (i.e. credit card numbers) across the Internet in a safe, encrypted format. Web Panache recommends VeriSign or Thawte.

Fees: Typically between $125 and $349 for first year, depending on the vendor you select. Refer to each vendor's web site for current prices.

Shopping Cart and Hosting
(a shopping cart is highly recommended, hosting is required)
A shopping cart is needed for your customers to easily select and purchase products from your on-line store.

We recommend our full E-commerce Solution utilizing AbleCommerce.  We also support Sales Cart, a MS FrontPage 2000 Plugin.

Fees:  $100 Set-up and $52.50 a month for Full E-Commerce Solution (includes hosting and access to your own online store).

Sales Cart may be purchased for a $188 license fee. It is supported within our Plan 2 hosting plan.

Web Panache Consulting
(optional)
Many customers opt for a certain number of Web Panache consulting hours to assist with tasks such as on-line payment integration, creation of secured order forms and many other tasks.

If you are not certain if you need consulting, please tell us about your project before ordering. We'll be happy to advise!

Fees: $65 - $100 per hour
