Link Allen’s newest release (a CD single), “It’s Okay If I Wear My Shades”, is now available to the public. The single “It’s Okay If I Wear My Shades” is a rocking R&B flavored number that’s sure to get your feet tapping and put a smile on your face. Of course, fans of Link already know what kind of humor he has (some say demented others just say wacky) and it comes through on these recordings. The b-side of the disc, “Don’t Just Sit There” is a straight ahead swing tune reminiscent of the big bands from yesteryear when swing ruled the world. The two song disc is dripping with horns and Link’s band, Money Out the Wazoo, put down some hip grooves on the recordings. “We rehearsed the songs a few times,” says Link, “and then we went into the studio and banged it out in a couple of takes. It was a lot of fun and the band did a great job.” Six Foot Joe was called in to produce the single and even honked his sax on a few solos. “Link brings a lot into the studio,” says Joe, “he’s talented and he likes to have fun. And to me that’s what making music is all about.”
Link and the band want to thank Hurricane Records and Six Foot Joe for their help, and a big thanks goes out to all the fans who have shown their support over the years. As Link himself once said, “If fans don’t want to read the comic strip then nobody’s going to stop them.”
THE BAND: MONEY OUT THE WAZOO
Link’s band, Money Out the Wazoo is a mixture of some friends of Six Foot Joe
and Link Allen’s. “When I saw the guys hanging outside the studio I thought they
were there to pay me back the money they owe me. Come to find out Joe called
them in to lay down some tracks for me,” says Link, “and that’s how the actual
band ‘Money Out the Wazoo’ started…hey, come to think of it, those guys never
did pay me back; Joe, if you’re reading this call those guys back and see if you
can get my money!” The instrumentation of ‘Money Out the Wazoo’ consists of
drums, guitar, bass, and vocals. Six Foot Joe was brought in to produce the disc
and wound up doing all the horn parts. “The guys were having so much fun in the
studio that I just wanted to join in on the fun,” says Joe, “besides, these
songs were begging to have horns in them; hey, its what I heard when the band
was working them up in the studio. That’s what a producer does, he listens and
tries to add what the song needs, and in the case of these two numbers they
definitely needed horns.” We couldn’t agree more Joe.
WHAT’S BEING
SAID:
“I thought they were a bunch of losers making all that noise in the studio. But
I have to admit it sounds pretty good. It’s maybe even worth stealing a copy
from the studio stock room.” ---Ernie,
former janitor at Wall of Sound Studios
