Merchant Accounts

A merchant account is a bank account offered by most financial organizations to merchants of all sizes for the sole purpose of processing credit card payments. All companies accepting credit cards, whether on the Internet or not, have a merchant account.

If you intend to accept credit cards over the internet, a merchant account is a necessity.  If you want to utilize on-line payment processing, there are special considerations.  You must open a merchant account with a financial organization that supports on-line payment processing (most do).
